ASME ANNOUNCES 2006 BEST COVER CONTEST

The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) Hosts Best Cover Contest To Identify Top Magazine Covers From August 2005 Through July 2006

NEW YORK, NY (July 7, 2006)—The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) is hosting a competition called Best Cover Contest to identify the top magazine covers from August 2005 through July 2006, it was announced by Marlene Kahan, Executive Director, ASME. Building on the success of last year's Magazine 40/40 which celebrated the 40 greatest magazine covers of the last 40 years, the winners of this year's contest will be announced at the magazine industrys premier summit, the American Magazine Conference, which takes place in Phoenix, AZ, on October 22-24.

Magazine covers are a true reflection of our culture and our world, said Ms. Kahan.  We intend to honor annually the most compelling covers that have appeared in the previous 12 months.

MPA- and ASME-member consumer magazines in the United States will be invited to submit a cover in one or more of the following six categories: Cover of the Year; Best Celebrity Cover; Best News Cover; Best Fashion Cover; Best Concept Cover; and Best Service Cover. A judging panel composed of magazine editors, design directors, art directors and photo editors will name the top covers for 2006 based upon excellence in design and creativity. There will also be special recognition for the year's best cover line.

The deadline for submission is Friday, August 11. For complete details, visit www.magazine.org/bestcover.
